LG 31MU97Z-B dead after power outage

After a power outage my LG 31MU97Z-B would not come back to life - not even the status light would show any sign of life. This happened on the evening of December 24th.
After a Google search for possible causes and solutions, I found monitorkapot.nl. I contacted Erwin, and despite the Christmas holidays, he promptly reacted, explained what might most certainly have happened, and what my options to fix the problem were.
Since I have the Thunderbolt version of this monitor (hence the "Z" in the model name), he did not have the correct image to re-flash the EEPROM. We could have tried the non-"Z" firmware, but that would most certainly have caused the loss of the Thunderbolt functionality (on which I rely), if it had worked at all. After checking various sources for the correct firmware, we concluded the best solution would be to get a new board from LG (which he took care of). In exchange for me allowing him to obtain the firmware image from the new board for possible future repairs, I did not have to pay for the repair itself. The whole process took about two weeks, most of the time spent by the monitor in transit. Given the fact that we're talking Christmas/New Year's here, I think that is a very reasonable timespan. In addition, Erwin informed me about every single step and progress of the repair in general.
I can only advise anyone who has a problem with his monitor or TV to ask Erwin for help. The service, response time and communication is outstanding.
Thank you very much, Erwin, for salvaging this great monitor, and for doing it so fast and professionally!
